Plot Summary
Twenty years before the events of the manga, Koinzell—originally known as Ascheriit—was a highly skilled swordsman who earned the prestigious title of Blatt Meister or “Blade Master.” He was chosen by the Emperor of Szaalenden to join a group of fourteen elite warriors on a dangerous mission to defeat the powerful nation of Wischtech, which wielded deadly weapons and dark magic.
Armed with lances blessed by the Emperor, the warriors ventured into enemy territory, but the journey was perilous—three of them lost their lives along the way. Fearing the danger ahead, seven of the remaining eleven abandoned the mission. Despite this, Ascheriit and the other three warriors pressed on and miraculously succeeded in their task.
However, when they returned, the seven who had fled betrayed them, ambushing and killing their victorious comrades. They then returned to the Emperor, falsely claiming that the four they had slain were traitors. As a result, the seven were celebrated as heroes, known as the Seven Heroes, while the fallen warriors were branded as traitors and given the infamous title Lances of Betrayal.
The story follows Ascheriit, who survived the massacre and now seeks revenge against his former comrades—now powerful nobles and warlords honored by the people.
Rushed Storytelling Sink This Adaptation

Then, at the most convenient moment, they suddenly wake up just in time to save the bad guy. Moments like this make the story feel forced and unrealistic.
It’s disappointing because the manga has been around for years, meaning there’s clearly a strong story behind it. But this adaptation does a poor job of bringing it to life. Even without reading the manga, it’s obvious that this version lacks the effort and budget needed to do it justice. Based on the first few episodes, it’s hard to recommend—if you’re interested in the story, reading the manga is probably a much better choice.

On top of that, Ubel Blatt Anime heavily censors the original material. The manga’s violent and mature themes have been toned down significantly, stripping away much of its dark appeal. Instead of brutal, visceral fights, we get excessive fountains of blood that look more like splashes of raspberry syrup. Key elements of the story, including its grittier and more mature moments, have been sanitized, making it feel like a hollow version of what it was meant to be.
The action sequences, which should be a highlight, are underwhelming. The protagonist, Köinzell, slices through enemies with ease, but the fights lack intensity and impact. The animation does little to bring the battles to life, making them feel repetitive and weightless.
